I read of John Barnes' resignation with great disappointment. The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger-Star was recently and finally achieving some balance in its editorial pages and reflecting some of the generally conservative thinking of most native Virginians.
It is unfortunate that Mr. Barnes' tenure was so brief (May to November). I join many who are expressing their feelings about this with regret.
I hope this will not signal a return to the liberal trend we had all noted before.
I wish Mr. Barnes success in his future endeavors and wish for the daily readers a continued balance in the editorial pages so that we may have an area paper we can all respect.

I am extremely sorry about the resignation of editorial page editor John Barnes because of managerial differences.
My guess is that the overly liberal Virginian-Pilot/Ledger-Star didn't like his conservatism.
It was a breath of fresh air to a lot of us to hear another view occasionally.
