The body of a Virginia Beach woman was discovered by workers Wednesday morning as they unloaded a trash-compacting truck at a Hampton landfill.
The woman was identified as Roza F. Parker, 48, of the 2900 block of Theodorus Court. The cause of her death was unknown pending an autopsy.
Howard Burns, district manager of Sanifill Inc. on Big Bethel Road, said the body was dumped at 7:06 a.m. by a commercial-garbage collection truck operated by BFI Waste Systems.
Workers were inspecting the load before allowing it to be buried when one of them saw a hand.
Hampton police initially handled the case but passed it to Virginia Beach police Wednesday.
Lou Thurston, a Virginia Beach police spokesman, said Parker ``has been known to go through Dumpsters looking for salvageable items.''
Her car, a light blue Buick Regal station wagon, was located in a church parking lot at Independence Boulevard and Ewell Road.
Bonnie Parker, the victim's daughter, disputed the police version of events, however.
``That's not my mother,'' Parker said. ``She was helping out the reverend at the church by loading some tree limbs from the inside of the Dumpster. . . head and she was knocked unconscious.''
Anyone with information about the victim is asked to call Detective Paul Yoakam at 427-4101. by CNB
