Clayton Hopkins will have to wait until Monday to find out if he will become the first Republican member of the Tyrrell County Commission.
Despite living in a county with fewer than 200 registered Republicans, Hopkins edged Democrat Lillian Hill by two votes to win one of two open seats on the board in Tuesday's elections. But a recount has been ordered.
Hopkins said he welcomes the recount, which will be held at 5:15 p.m. Monday at the Tyrrell County Courthouse.
````I'll tell you, I'm looking forward to it,'' said Hopkins. ``It will end any division and suspicion between the two groups. It's part of the democratic process. I will say I hope the results don't change.''
