A 7-year-old boy suffered burns on his face, arms and a leg when teenagers threw a can of flammable liquid into a fire, a spokesman for the York County Fire Department said.
The 7-year-old and two young companions came upon several teenagers gathered around a trash fire on a vacant lot Sunday afternoon as some teens were tossing cans of ``various types of flammable liquid'' into the fire, said Battalion Chief Harold M. Willaford.
When one can exploded, it sent out a plume of flame that burned 18 percent of the boy's body, Willaford said. The teenagers fled, he said.
The boy made it home on his own, and his mother rushed him to Riverside Regional Medical Center. He was transferred to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Norfolk, where he was in stable condition Monday but facing a lot of pain and burn therapy, Willaford said.
