VIRGINIA DISPLAY: QVC, a television shopping network, is featuring Virginia and its products on Feb. 18. The two-hour broadcast will feature products in six categories: housewares and home furnishings, automotive supplies, gourmet foods and beverages, jewelry, health/fitness and beauty products, and apparel and accessories.
Small businesses in Virginia will have products showcased and sold on the QVC Network during a live broadcast from the College of William and Mary.
An exhibition will be held so that small businesses will have an opportunity to display their products to a team of QVC buyers on Dec. 7 and 8 at the Richmond Centre.
Products considered for exhibition and broadcast should not be currently available nationally, and they must be shippable by UPS.
Interested businesses should call Mac Forehand at 1-804-371-7683 to receive a copy of QVC's product guidelines and show registration materials.
The deadline to turn in applications is Nov. 21.
NEW DRIVE-THROUGH: A drive-through Chick-Fil-A restaurant will open in the Pembroke area at 4395 Virginia Beach Blvd., directly across from Princess Anne High School, late next month.
The restaurant, a franchise owned by Mark P. Mitchell, will feature a two-lane double drive-through and a 50-seat patio dining area. Currently, Mitchell owns and operates the Pembroke Mall franchise of Chick-Fil-A.
Mitchell plans to hire about 50 employees for the new restaurant, which is a prefabricated structure that will be delivered by truck to the site.
The new drive-through concept was first tested in March 1993 in Greenville, S.C., said Mitchell.
Currently, there are 12 to 15 such drive-through Chick-Fil-A restaurants in the country, including one in Lynchburg, Mitchell said.
OUTLET OPEN: A Spiegel Clearance Center has opened in the Great American Outlet Mall at 3750 Virginia Beach Blvd.
The store, with more than 7,000 square feet, offers merchandise from the Spiegel Catalog at 50 percent to 70 percent off. Merchandise ranges from skirts to sweaters to coats to lingerie. According to Joan Edwards, store manager, the lease is through January and after that, the store's performance will decide what happens. by CNB
