The Cox High field hockey team won its 23rd-straight game last Friday in capturing the Eastern Region tournament crown for the fourth-straight year.
The Falcons - the five-time defending state champions - upended Bayside for the fourth time this season, 5-0. But both teams advance to this week's state tournament at Vienna's Oakton High.
Should the two meet in the state championship, it would be the fourth time in five years that the final has been an all-Beach affair.
Both teams will compete in Thursday's quarterfinal round. The championship is set for 11 a.m. Saturday.
Cox has outscored its opponents this season, 96-2, and features the two career scoring leaders in the state. Kim Miller is the leader with 91 goals with another year to play, while senior Kirsty Hale has 86. ILLUSTRATION: Staff photos by D. KEVIN ELLIOTT
