CLAUD H. STAPLES

Claud H. Staples of Gulf Breeze, Fla., who was born and raised in Portsmouth, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 14, 1994. He was a patient in Baptist Hospital, Pensacola, Fla.

He was retired from the U.S. Defense Department and was still employed part time. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.

Mr. Staples was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Pensacola, Fla., and was previously a member of the former South Street Baptist Church and choir of Portsmouth.

He is survived by his wife and friend, Carol; two daughters, Susan Crane of Suffolk and Lori Durham of Morehead City, N.C.; two sons, Claud Staples Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif., and Kent Walker of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; one brother, Foster Staples of Portsmouth; five sisters, Grace S. Benton and Leila Sharpe, both of Portsmouth, Mary Jackson of Titusville, Fla., Lois Gordon of Ketchikan, Alaska, and Alice Getz of Placentia, Calif.
