An interesting sidelight to the recent elections is the gender split.
Women voted Democrat and men Republican.
In Massachusetts, for example, the male vote split evenly at 47 percent while the female vote went to Sen. Edward Kennedy 62 percent to 37 percent.
Women also were responsible for the re-election of Sen. Chuck Robb, and just two years ago got credit for electing President Clinton.
My father was fond of jokingly saying that when some historian wrote ``The Rise and Fall of the American Republic,'' he would pinpoint the beginning of the fall at the commencement of women's suffrage. While this always brought a good laugh, with women responsible for electing the three most prominent womanizers in the political world, could Dad have been onto something?
