The founding fathers of the United States, trying to contrive a system of government that would be controlled by the majority, arrived at a system they believed to be just and honorable. For checks and balances, three separate parts were created, with terms and limits.
These safeguards were placed to prevent career politicians, whose only real interest would be perpetuity in a seat of power - semi-God, above the rules and regulations they write for the masses.
About 30 years of indifference have put our country on a path such that our children will have indifferent futures unless a correction is forthcoming soon.
While it may seem wise to some that a longtime officeholder would have the knowledge, ability and foresight to be an effective leader through this experience, it is just not so. Power corrupts.
History has shown that every country or nation has failed because of the corruption of its leaders. Shall we contribute to this sorry state? Term limits may just be the first step needed to start this correction.
