Carolyn Self Harris, 48, of the 100 block of Cove Court in Rocky Mount and the 2900 block of Main St. Extd., in Elizabeth City, died Monday morning at her residence in Rocky Mount.
She was a native of Norfolk, raised in the Newland section of Pasquotank County, and was a clerk with Sprint Carolina Telephone Co. She was a member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church. Mrs. Harris was the daughter of Ruth Winslow Self of Elizabeth City and the late Edward F. Self Jr. and was the wife of Douglas Harris of Elizabeth City.
Besides her husband and mother, she is survived by two sons, Jason Cartwright of Roxboro and Travis Edwards of Rocky Mount; two stepdaughters, LeAnne Harris of Chesapeake and Donna Harris of Elizabeth City; three brothers, Terry Self of Sumter, S.C., Mike Self of Elizabeth City and Jeff Self of South Mills; one grandchild, Heather Cartwright and a daughter-in-law, Theresa Cartwright, both of Harbinger. She was predeceased by a son, James R. Cartwright Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, 405 E. Church St., Elizabeth City, with the Rev. Glenn Greenway and the Rev. David Benton officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the Elizabeth City residence, 2906 Main St. Extd.
