Melba Jenkins Bateman, 78, a retired bookkeeper, died Nov. 28, 1994, in a Norfolk hospital.
Mrs. Bateman was born in Johnson City, Tenn., and was retired from the City of Norfolk after 30 years. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and Elizabeth Chapter (NU)45 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene R. Bateman; a son, A.F. Jenkins of Chesapeake; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
