Walter Carlyle Savelle, 82, of the 5400 block of Jo Ann Drive, died Nov. 29, 1994, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Savelle was the widower of Margaret Miller Savelle. He was retired as a joiner from the Naval Air Rework Facility. He was a member of Churchland Baptist Church and also was associated with the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Portsmouth. He was a charter member and past master of Washington-Lafayette Lodge No. 176; a member of Port Norfolk Royal Arch Chapter (NU)36; Portsmouth Commandery (NU)5 Knights Templar; past commander of American Legion Post (NU)36, American Legion Post (NU)310 and the American Legion 2nd District; NARFE Chapter (NU)1293; and a member of the legislative committee of AARP. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Savelle Messina of Portsmouth; a son, W. Carlyle Savelle II of Virginia Beach; two granddaughters and three grandsons.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Loving Funeral Home Chapel, Churchland, by Dr. R. Clint Hopkins. Entombment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens with Masonic rites. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
