Scott Alperin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Alperin, recently passed the Maryland and District of Columbia bar exam, and is clerking for an Appellate Court judge in Maryland.
Alperin is a graduate of Norfolk Academy, the University of Virginia and the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he was selected for Law Review and received the distinction of summa cum laude. CAMPUS NOTES
Myrna Nelson Matthews, a kindergarten teacher at Oakwood Elementary School, has received the Apple for the Teacher Award from Iota Phi Lambda sorority. Matthews was cited for her outstanding contribution to the total educational process of the area's youth.
Bessie Pender and George Felt received certificates of commendation from the Student Loan Marketing Association and the American Association of School Administrators in recognition of their performance as first-year teachers. Pender teaches at Coleman Place Elementary, and Felt teaches at Lafayette/Winona Middle School. MILITARY PEOPLE
Marine Col. Jerry S. Altares, son of Juanita S. Altares of the 1700 block of N. Lakeland Drive, recently was promoted to his present rank while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C. A 1987 graduate of Lake Taylor High School, Altares joined the Marines in March 1992.
Marine Pfc. Chester A. Wright, son of Chester A. and Anita Wright of the 2400 block of Gazel St., recently completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Wright is a 1993 graduate of Granby High School.
Navy Seaman Recruit Arthur T. Watson, son of Perline Watson of the 300 block of W. 31st St., recently graduated from the basic enlisted submarine course at the Naval Submarine School in Groton, Conn.
