Leroy W. Wingfield Sr., 68, of the 2600 block of N. Dahlia St., died Nov. 27, 1994, in Portsmouth General Hospital.
Mr. Wingfield was born in Pughsville, Nansemond County, Va., and was the widower of Alice Brown Wingfield. He was employed with the Public Works Center, Norfolk Naval Base, for 38 years. He was a member of Noble Street Baptist Church, Portsmouth, was former music director and coordinator of the Sunday School Choir, Young Adult Choir and Senior Choirs, member and past president of the Male Chorus and was the church custodian. He was also affiliated with the Joliff Male Chorus and participated with Meals on Wheels and the Gosport Forum.
Survivors include five daughters, Sylvia C. Wingfield, Carolyn M. Wingfield, Winifred T. Wingfield and Constance Sullivan, all of Portsmouth, and Antoinette M. Wilson of Chesapeake; four sons, Leroy W. Wingfield Jr. of Brooklyn, N.Y., Robert W. Wingfield of Virginia Beach, Lynward W. Wingfield of Portsmouth and Alex M. Wingfield of Columbia, S.C.; three sisters, Elexzena Gregory and Evelyn Carr, both of Philadelphia, and Ada Brembry of Portsmouth; two brothers, Eugene Milton and Joe Morrisette, both of Portsmouth; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one son-in-law; one daughter-in-law; one brother-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends; and a devoted and loving friend, Brenda Fleetwood of Portsmouth.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Noble Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronnie T. Northam. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will begin at noon Friday in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
