Local police are seeking public assistance in solving these cases:
VIRGINIA BEACH
On Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 11:15 a.m., a 71-year-old woman was robbed in a parking lot on Military Highway.
The woman was getting into her car in the Burlington Coat Factory parking lot when a man grabbed her purse and dragged her from her car.
The robber had a semi-automatic pistol. He was last seen getting into a burgundy, 1994, four-door, Oldsmobile Cutlass that had been reported stolen from James City County the day before.
The car was discovered abandoned a few days later on Mariner Street in Norfolk.
Police have a composite sketch of the robber. He is described as black, in his early 20s, with short black hair and a thin build. He was wearing baggy pants, a light blue T-shirt, and a long white jacket.
The getaway car was driven by another man.
PORTSMOUTH
Detective Welton Beard needs help in solving the homicide of a 77-year-old man.
On Tuesday, Nov. 15, about 6:30 a.m., neighbors found the body of William Vaughan, 77, in his home at 1913 Prentis Ave.
Investigators believe someone entered his home through a back door and severely beat him.
Police believe robbery was the motive. Investigators have no suspect.
CHESAPEAKE
On Nov. 11, about 8 p.m., two men were in the area of Booker Street in the Crestwood section when they were shot.
Both men were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Police are seeking any information about the men's assailants.
HAMPTON
On Saturday, Nov. 26, at 8:16 p.m., a Langley cab was dispatched to the 7-Eleven store at LaSalle Avenue and Shell Road. A rider was picked up there.
A short while later, the driver was found shot to death in his cab, which was parked in the 3800 block of Chesapeake Avenue.
Police are asking for help in solving this murder. by CNB
