Carrie L. Downing, 99, of the 900 block E. Princess Anne Road, died Dec. 3, 1994, in Norfolk Health Care Center.
Mrs. Downing was born in Norfolk and was the widow of Garfield Downing. She was a member of New Central Baptist Church, Norfolk.
She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Horace Downing of Norfolk and the Rev. Melvin Downing of Chesapeake; a sister, Isadora Jones of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nine grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; two daughters-in-law, Beryl Downing of Norfolk and Mamie Downing of Chesapeake; two nieces, Zelma Williams and Hortense Cross, both of Massachusetts; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in New Central Baptist Church, Norfolk, by Dr. Charles Hart. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be today from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Pretlow's Funeral Home and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. The family will be receiving friends at 1113 Craig St., in Norfolk, where they will also assemble at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday for the processional to the church.
