Dr. John Randolph St. George, 90, a retired physician and surgeon, died Dec. 5, 1994, in Portsmouth.
Dr. St. George, a native of Portsmouth, did his pre-medical studies at the College of William and Mary, and received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1928. After a year of internship and a year as house resident surgeon at DePaul Hospital in Norfolk, he returned to Portsmouth in 1930 and operated his practice of medicine and surgery for the next 53 years. He retired in 1983.
His numerous memberships include the Portsmouth Academy of Medicine; Norfolk Academy of Medicine; American Medical Association; Tidal Wave Masonic Lodge 273; Sigma Nu Fraternity; and Phi Rho Sigma Medical Fraternity. He was a 63-year member of the Portsmouth Rotary Club and a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Louise Waller St. George; a son and daughter-in-law, John R. St. George Jr. and Betty J. St. George of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, John R. St. George III, Mary S. Lauer, Jeffrey Waller St. George, Anne Ruth St. George; three great-grandchildren, Matthew Ryan St. George, Julia Morgan Lauer and Katherine Rose St. George.
A graveside funeral, with Masonic rites, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Brian C. Hobden. Foster Funeral Home is handling arrangements. The family will receive friends at 4268 Hatton Point Lane, Portsmouth.
