Daniel H. Payne, 75, of Delray Beach, Fla., and Kennebunkport, Maine, died yesterday in Norfolk.
He was the son of the late Robert Lee and Mary Harmon Payne. He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater in World War II. He received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Virginia and subsequently practiced law in Norfolk. He was also a principal in the retailing firm of Harrison-Payne Inc., with locations in several East Coast resort cities.
He is survived by his sister, Mary P. Hogan; three brothers, Robert L. Payne Jr., Richard B. Payne and M. Lee Payne; and by his business partner and friend, Richard C. Frisby.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Norfolk, by Dr. J. Sheppard Russell and Dr. Roger W. Jackle.
