ROBERT A. YOUNG SR.

Robert Alan Young Sr., a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired pastry chef, passed away on Dec. 1, 1994, at the age of 71.

A member of First Christian Fellowship Church in East Ocean View, he had worked all over Tidewater as a pastry chef, including some of the finest restaurants and hotels such as the Omni at Waterside and the Chamberlain Hotel. He had also started the original bakery inside the Giant Open Air Market in Portsmouth.

Mr. Young is survived by two daughters, Victoria Yakubik of Hampton and Katherine Champion of French Lick, Ind.; three sons, Theodore Young of Greensburg, Pa., Robert A. Young Jr. of Portsmouth and David M. Young of Virginia Beach; a brother, H. Wilson Young of Lakehurst, N.J.; and eight grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted at Quantico National Cemetery at noon Thursday by Pastor Edward J. Thomas Jr. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, Hampton.
