The Pasquotank County Board of Commissioners elected Elizabeth City attorney Zee B. Lamb as its chairman Monday.
Horace Pritchard Jr., a farmer in Pasquotank County, was elected as vice chairman in the morning meeting in the Pasquotank County Courthouse.
Lamb, 36, served two years as vice chairman under outgoing Chairman W.C. Witherspoon, who remains on the board. Lamb has been a commissioner for six years and has served on such groups as the District Jail and Mental Health commissions.
Lamb expressed appreciation for his colleagues' support and praised board members for their work in the past.
``This commission is a family, and I appreciate the opportunity to serve on it,'' Lamb said. ``There isn't a stronger, more dedicated group in the state.''
Pritchard, 45, is replacing Lamb as vice chairman and has been a commissioner for four years. His board appointments include service on the Central Communications Board and the Local Emergency Planning Commission.
State law requires county commissioner boards to elect officers every December. The Pasquotank Board prohibits members from serving in executive positions for more than two consecutive years.
