PUBLIC PRAYERS

Regarding ``Is America strong, just and under God?'' (letter, Dec. 2): Religious intolerance is what brought our founding fathers here and other immigrants later - people who were oppressed.

Religion is the most wonderful gift that we have. We are able to keep it in our homes, in our churches and, most of all, in our hearts. But unless every group of people, every creed, every race and every religion can be identified, religious prayers do not belong at public events or in public schools.

It is offensive to pray out loud to someone who does not share your personal beliefs. Silent prayer would be acceptable for any circumstances.

I thank God that our Supreme Court justices have ruled on this in the past. I hope they will do the right thing again.
