Z. Vance Mitchell, 76, a resident of Graydon Circle, died Friday, Dec. 9, 1994, at the Medical College of Virginia.
He formerly owned and operated Mitchell's Texaco in Waverly and retired in 1986 as an employee of the Commonwealth of Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control store, Waverly. He served on the USS Omaha in the Navy during World War II and was a member of the England-Parsons American Legion Post (NU)191, Waverly. He attended Waverly United Methodist Church and was formerly a member of the Waverly Ruritans.
He is survived by his wife, Constance Mae Mitchell; a son, Z. Vance Mitchell Jr. of Newport News; a daughter, Katherine M. Crews of St. Marys, Ga.; and two grandchildren, David Gregory Mitchell and Brian Carl Mitchell.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Waverly United Methodist Church by the Rev. Randy McMillen. Memorial donations may be made to the church. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel, is handling arrangements.
