Elizabeth ``Betty'' Poole Athey, 83, retired owner and operator of Poole's Fishing Center, died Dec. 9, 1994, in Virginia Beach.
Mrs. Athey was born in Smithfield, Va., and was the widow of Charles Winston Athey. She was a member of Bayside Baptist Church and the Faithful Class; lifetime member of Tidewater Anglers Club; and Ocean Park Women's Club. She was a devoted and loving mother and a faithful servant of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
Survivors include a son, Warner Athey of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Susannah Warner of Onancock, Va., and Elizabeth Hedlund of Virginia Beach; a sister, Caroline Ryder of DeLand, Fla.; and three grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Bayside Baptist Church by Dr. Paul S. Carter and Pastor Jess Jackson. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Memorial donations may be made to Hope Haven Children's Home.
