Mary Elizabeth Smith Hart, 63, of the 1600 block of Freeman Ave., a retired teacher assistant at Crestwood Junior High School, died Dec. 8, 1994, at DePaul Medical Center, Norfolk.
Mrs. Hart was born in Norfolk County. She retired from the Chesapeake city public school system after 15 years, was a member of the Retired Military Spouses Club and the widow of Sherman Hart Jr. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, the senior choir and was a missionary.
Survivors include a daughter, Gayle E. Simms of Chesapeake; a son, Floyd D. Ward of Norfolk; her mother, B. Alberta Smith and a sister, Sara S. Royster, both of Chesapeake; one grandchild; a foster daughter, Shannelle Hawkes of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Hope Baptist Church, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Sidney Foster. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at 5 p.m. Monday. The body will be taken to the church at noon Tuesday.
