Dorothy Cox Moore, 85, of 5004 Lauderdale Avenue, died December 10, 1994.
A native of Dinwiddie County, she was the daughter of the late Joel Nicholas and Maude Elizabeth Ellis Cox and the widow of Alex Moore.
Mrs. Moore was a retired Virginia public school teacher, having taught Latin in Chuckatuck High School and was postmaster of the Chuckatuck Post Office retiring from that position in 1970. For a number of years she was a faculty member of the English department at Old Dominion University and formerly served as a docent at the Chrysler Museum.
She was a member of Oakland Christian Church. She was a former member of the Junto Woman's Club and the Constantia Chapter of the DAR.
Survivors include four daughters, Jacquelin Yates Cowles of Mathews Co., Evelyn Yates Randolph of Virginia Beach, Susan Moore Sheffield of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Carol Moore Hatfield of Virginia Beach; one son, James Alexander Moore of Suffolk; twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. at the graveside in Newman Memorial Cemetery by the Rev. Mark Burns. The family will receive friends at the home of James Moore, 109 Bosley Avenue, Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Chesapeake Beach Volunteer Rescue Squad, Inc., P.O.
