A copy of a religious icon, Our Lady of Guadalupe, drew believers in
the photograph's mystical powers on Monday in Norfolk. The faithful
- including Joanne Bruns of Norfolk, right - brought their own
paintings and other religious objects to touch to the icon.
According to church teaching, the image of a pregnant Virgin Mary
miraculously appeared on a cloak worn by Juan Diego, an Aztec, in
December 1531. The photograph is one of two touring copies of the
original image, which is kept in the Basilica of Our Lady of
Guadalupe in Mexico City. The copy was displayed at Hillcrest
Clinic, where protesters prayed for the Virgin Mary's help to end
abortions.
