HAMILL BOWS OUT

Dorothy Hamill, America's ice-skating sweetheart, broke some hearts Tuesday night in Norfolk when she withdrew from the lead role in her Ice Capades' performance of ``Cinderella . . . Frozen In Time'' at Scope.

Gina DePinto, sales and marketing manager for the Ice Capades, said the 1976 Olympic gold medal winner has been battling fatigue in recent weeks but hoped to skate in tonight's performance at Scope. ``The last thing she wants to do is miss this,'' DePinto said.

Canadian skater Kristen MacKay filled in as Cinderella in Tuesday's performance and is prepared to do so again tonight, DePinto said. After its two Norfolk shows, the Ice Capades' ``Cinderella'' company will travel to Atlantic City, N.J., this weekend.

DePinto said the ice show, which has an agreement to be purchased by Virginia Beach-based International Family Entertainment Inc., refunded money to fewer than 20 ticketholders who didn't want to see Tuesday's performance unless Hamill skated. She said the same refund policy will be in effect tonight if Hamill doesn't perform. by CNB
