CREATIVE ``TREE OF CHARMS'' A WINNER IN GIFT CONTEST

FIFTEEN-YEAR-OLD Courtney Young, a sophomore at Cox High School, was the take-all winner in Teenology's cheap gift idea contest. Her imaginative and inexpensive idea beat nearly 30 others.

Courtney's ``tree of charms,'' modeled after a coat of arms, won her $150 worth of gifts from area merchants. This gift cost her under $5 to make last year, when she gave it to her dad for Christmas.

The ``tree of charms'' is made from a small tree, whether it's a mini-artificial or part of a real one, and whatever ornaments remind you of the receiver. Courtney used construction paper to make decorations such as a dollar bill, since her dad's a ``good provider'' and a first place ribbon, since he is ``No. 1.''

She hung the ornaments with dental floss and then wrote her pop a poem explaining the story behind each one. ``He liked it,'' she said. ``It made him cry.'' by CNB
