Alonzo Jefferson ``A.J.'' Gibbs, 67, of Shawboro died Thursday, Dec. 15, 1994, in the Hampton Veterans Hospital.
He was a native of Hyde County and was owner and operator of a long distance trucking company. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church and a former member of Hall Masonic Lodge (NU)53 in Shawboro. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and the son of the late Cashew Gibbs and the late Jennie Spence Gibbs Sawyer, and was the husband of Elizabeth Cowell Gibbs.
Besides his wife, Mr. Gibbs is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Dwan and Michael Craft of Moyock; and a half sister, Alean S. Holden of Shawboro. He was predeceased by a son, Jeff Gibbs.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. C.H. Wellons and the Rev. George Pollock. Burial will follow in the Cowell Family Cemetery on East Ridge Road in Currituck County. The family will be at the residence. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, is in charge of arrangements.
