Strong November housing starts courtesy of warm weather: U.S. housing starts benefited from warmer than usual weather in November and continued to defy rising interest rates. Gains in the Northeast and Midwest pushed starts in November up 6.9 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.54 million units, the Commerce Department said. That was well beyond the consensus forecast for a 0.8 percent increase. The November starts rate was the highest since December 1993, and the percentage increase was the biggest since March.
