James Madison University is asking the state to provide most of the $122 million the school wants for new construction projects.
The Board of Visitors asked the state Friday to appropriate about $89.9 million to the school in the 1996-98 biennium. The remaining $32 million would come from school-generated funds, such as residence hall fees.
The school wants to spend $112.6 million on construction at the school's College of Integrated Science and Technology, including six new academic buildings.
The rest of the money would go toward renovations on the original campus.
Budget requests from colleges are reviewed by the State Council of Higher Education, the governor's office and various other state offices. The final decision on funding is made by the General Assembly. by CNB
