A 27-year-old man was shot and killed in front of his residence late Thursday.

Police were called to the 800 block of Potomac Ave. at 11:44 p.m. when shots were heard.

They found Eric J. Belton of 812 Potomac Ave. on the ground with a bullet wound in the head.

Belton was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken the state crime lab in Norfolk.

Neighbors saw two men and a woman running from the crime scene, Portsmouth police spokesman G.A. Brown said.

He said the three drove out of the neighborhood in a small, white car.
