Clean-up crews have recovered about 12,000 gallons of the estimated 19,000 gallons of diesel fuel that spilled early Friday from the amphibious assault ship Inchon at Pier 5 of Norfolk Naval Station.
Navy oil-skimmer vessels were scheduled to work around the clock to complete the job, officials said.
Most of the fuel was contained at the base.
A small amount reached the Norfolk International Terminals. The cause of the spill was not available.
