Three Navy ships will be open for public tours today and Sunday.
The public can tour the destroyer tender Yellowstone at Norfolk Naval Station from 1 to 4:30 p.m. To enter the base, show a driver's license and car registration to the pass office across from Gate 5 on Hampton Boulevard.
The tank-landing ship Harlan County will be open from 1 p.m. to 4:30p.m. at Little Creek Naval Amphibious Base.
Drive directly to Gate 1 at Shore drive and Little Creek road.
The destroyer Briscoe will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. while it visits the Nauticus at Waterside.
The Briscoe was recently presented the Humanitarian Service Medal for rescuing some of the 500 passengers of a burning Egyptian ferryboat in the Mediterranean Sea. Fifteen of its crew members also were presented the Navy Marine Corps Medal for heroism. by CNB
