George R. Harris, 66, of the 1400 block of Wilcox Ave., a retired crater packer, died Dec. 18, 1994, in his home in Portsmouth.
Mr. Harris was born in Nansemond County, Va. He had retired from Norfolk Naval Supply Center after 39 years. He was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 27; Truxtun Lodge 199, Order of Masons; and J.B. Hunting Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient.
Survivors include his wife, Helen A. Harris; two daughters, Angela V. Harris of Temple Hills, Md., and Melanie H. Lewis of Fort Washington, Md.; a brother, James Harris Jr. of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Deahn H. Sandidge of Temple Hills, Md., and Niya R. Lewis of Fort Washington; a son-in-law, Timothy Lewis of Fort Washington; a devoted niece and nephew-in-law, Ethel Mae and Nathaniel Riggins; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws, including a devoted mother-in-law, Marion Allen; and a host of friends, including Robert Lee Stewart.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Curtis E. Edmonds. Entombment with military and masonic honors will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. today in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Thursday.
