SHOPPING CENTER APPROVED

The concept for a shopping center for the Moyock area has been endorsed by the Currituck County Board of Commissioners.

The five-member panel on Monday night unanimously approved the proposal by Acey Commercial Properties of Virginia Beach to build a shopping area anchored by a grocery store.

Other proposed businesses located in the 64,000-square-foot center on N.C. 168 would include a drug store, variety store, automotive center and other retail shops.

The center will include an on-site plant that will pump treated wastewater to a 2.6-acre, sand-filled field at the southern boundary of the property.

The plan now advances to the preliminary plat stage, which deals with the more technical details.

ACTION ON DEVELOPMENTS DELAYED - Action on four residential developments in Currituck County has been delayed.

The county's board of commissioners tabled action Monday on Dove Roost and The Plantations in the Moyock area and Dozier Acres in the Crawford Township until its meeting Feb. 6.

The board will use the extra time to find a solution to school shortages and other growth issues that those new developments would create.

The developer of a golf course community called The Currituck Club on the Outer Banks asked for a two-week delay before a vote is taken on approving his planned unit development.

Mickey Hayes asked for more time to work out public access problems that have been brought to the board's attention.

A decision on a rezoning request and sketch plan approval for The Currituck Club is expected Jan. 2. EDGECOMBE COUNTY
