Peggy S. Meszaros, the dean of Virginia Tech's College of Human Resources, was named the university's provost Tuesday. She will start work Feb. 1.
``Peg Meszaros is an academic leader who has a strong commitment to helping students, faculty and staff develop to their fullest potential,'' Tech President Paul Torgersen said. ``That is an ideal trait to have in the chief academic officer of a university.
``She also has a deep reservoir of intellect and energy. In the coming months, we will both need it.''
Meszaros came to Tech in 1993 from the University of Kentucky, where she was dean of the College of Human Environmental Sciences. She began her career as a science and home economics teacher in Kentucky.
