Melvin Preston Armstrong, 85, died Monday, Dec. 19, 1994.
He was a retired chief engineer from Interstate Oil Transport Co. of New Jersey.
He is survived by his wife, Idella Simmons Armstrong; daughters, Vilas A. Secrist; grandchildren, Linda S. Dwyer and Roy P. Dwyer Jr., Kathy S. Freites and Sgt. Johnny Z. Freites; great-grandchildren, Sara Ann Freites, Charles Preston Freites and Jessica Caroline Dwyer; sisters and brother-in-law, Thelma L. Armstrong, Betty A. Long and W.A. Long, all of Richmond; brother and sister-in-law, James B. and Opal Armstrong, Richmond.
Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Dr. Robert G. Moore III officiating. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach, with Pastor Frank Hughes officiating. Arrangements are by Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
