A metal box with wires hanging from it was removed from an apartment house door and taken away by bomb technicians Wednesday night, but it was unclear whether the device was dangerous.
A man who lived in the building in the 100 block of Thames Drive in Thalia Garden Apartments found the box taped to his door when he came home about 7:30 p.m. He touched the box but did not try to remove it. Instead, he called 911.
Investigators looked it over and decided it might be dangerous.
The device was loaded into a reinforced trailer cask designed to absorb an explosion and was to be taken to an undisclosed location.
``You just can't take anything for granted. You just have to go through your procedures,'' said Chase Sergeant, a Fire Department spokesman. ``Unfortunately, with these types of things, you have to err on the side of safety.'' by CNB
