STUDENTS' HOLIDAY SPIRIT CAN'T BE LOCKED UP

A clanging bell shatters the silence. Students run from class to class, stopping at lockers filled with books and folders and pictures - the usual stuff.

But locker No. 123 is different.

The locker, shared by Breigh Marshall and Sarah Lynch-Walker, sophomores at First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach, is filled with Christmas spirit. The decor is the most unusual and creative in the school, complete with a twinkling Christmas tree on the top shelf.

``I would have brought in a larger tree, but I am running out of space for my books!'' Breigh said.

For Sarah and Breigh, their locker is a home away from home. It's different from the others all year. Even after the Christmas decorations are gone, the newspaper comics, a sort of wallpapering that covers every single inch, will remain.

The comics are even stuck to the bottom of the shelves. It's not unusual to see Sarah sticking her head under a shelf looking for some empty space for more comics.

The only way to solve the space problem, Sarah said, is to use the locker next to theirs for books. MEMO: Shibani Kagal is a sophomore at First Colonial High School. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
