ERNEST L. HINTON

Ernest Lynwood Hinton, 78, died in Chesapeake General Hospital Thursday following a period of declining health. He was born in Johnson County on March 30, 1916. He was the son of the late Clarence Williams and Closie Johnson Hinton. He was retired general foreman with Navy Public Works Center in Norfolk after 31 years of service. He graduated from Smithfield High School in 1932 and served in the Army Air Force. Mr. Hinton was the husband of Mattie Ford Hinton who survives.

Besides his wife he is survived by a son, Ernest Lynwood (Sunny) Hinton Jr. of Chesapeake; two daughters, Linda Faye Reynolds and Alice Rose Hinton, both of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Dec. 27, 1994, Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Riverside Cemetery in Smithfield, N.C. The family of Ernest L. Hinton will receive friends Monday, Dec. 26, 1994, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Underwood Funeral Home, Smithfield, N.C. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Shriners Children's Hospital. Twiford's Funeral Home, Ghent Chapel, is in charge of local arrangements.
