Mary Jones Buzzy, 83, of Lynn Shores Chateau, a retired school teacher, died Dec. 22, 1994, in her residence.
Mrs. Buzzy was born in Portsmouth. She had taught fifth and seventh grade in the Old Princess Anne County and then the City of Virginia Beach for 34 years. She was the widow of Ernest Floyd Buzzy and was a member of Haygood United Methodist Church and the Friendship Class. She was raised in the Tidewater area, graduated from Kempsville High School and Madison State Teachers College. She taught in the winter and traveled in the summer where she collected a large number of dolls from the places she visited. When she retired she took ballroom dancing where she won many trophies. She was a member and past worthy matron of Kempsville Chapter 173 Order of the Eastern Star. She was past assistant lecturer of the Virginia Beach District Order of the Eastern Star and member and past president of Sentara Hospital Bayside Auxiliary. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Sally B. Merkle of Glen Allen, Va. and a sister, Margaret J. Marshall of Virginia Beach.
Survivors include a daughter, Catherine B. Mapp of Virginia Beach; four grandchildren, H. Lee Duplain of Suffolk and Susan Merkle and William C. Merkle, both of Richmond and Norris E. Merkle of Charleston, S.C.; 10 great-grandchildren; two nieces, Carol M. Scott of Virginia Beach and Diane M. Rinehard of Woodbridge, Va.; four great-nieces; and one great-great-niece.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Rosewood Memorial Park by the Rev. Alan Reifsnyder. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the Haygood United Methodist Church, Organ Fund, 4713 Haygood Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23455.
