George Monroe Held, 81, of the 200 block of Brickhaven Drive, died Dec. 25, 1994, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Mr. Held was born in Elkhart, Ind., and was a Baptist. He had retired from the City of Virginia Beach as chief dispatcher in 1976 after 15 years. He was also chief of the Kempsville Fire Department from 1955 to 1980. He was a member of Princess Anne Masonic Lodge (NU)25 and the Friendship Sunday School Class of Kempsville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Willie E. Held; three sisters, Loretta Doehla of Cromwell, Ind., Grace Auer and Kate Auer, both of Syracuse, Ind.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Rosewood Memorial Park by Dr. Kelly J. Burris. Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is handling arrangements. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the building fund of Kempsville Baptist Church.
