Hyman Block, 87, of the 3800 block of High St., died Dec. 25, 1994, in a Portsmouth hospital.
Mr. Block was a native of Norfolk, Va. He was a retired civil service employee of the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and owner of his own business. He was a lifelong member of Gomley Chesed Congregation.
Survivors include his wife, Sophie Coin Block; two daughters, Leslie Klavan of Portsmouth and Barrie Smullian of Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Florence Block of Washington, D.C., and Jeanette Spigel of Newport News; one brother, Al Block of Virginia Beach; two sons-in-law, Louis Klavan and Harold Smullian; three grandchildren, Brad Klavan and his wife, Randi, of Fairfax, Va., Neil Smullian and Andrew Smullian of Baltimore, Md.; one great-grandson, Ryan Klavan. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Randi Ruth Klavan.
A graveside service will be conducted by Rabbi Philip Krohn on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at 3 p.m. in Gomley Chesed Cemetery, Portsmouth. The family will be at 4516 Templar Drive, Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to the Gomley Chesed Synagogue. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, is handling arrangements.
