VIOLA M. MARTIN

Viola M. Martin, 86, a retired schoolteacher, died Dec. 28, 1994, in Suffolk.

She was born in Portsmouth. She had retired from the Portsmouth City Public School system after 42 years, where she taught at Cradock, Churchland and Shea Terrace Elementary Schools. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School. She was an honorary member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and was a member of the Portsmouth's Richard Dale Womens Club. She was Teacher of the Year, a member of the Forum and a graduate of Farmville State Teachers College. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Dicie Martin, and her sister, Mrs. Margaret Hanbury.

She is survived by numerous relatives and will be surely missed by them and her many friends.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, by the Rev. Philip J. Parker. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service to receive friends. Memorial donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or a charity of one's choice.
