Annie M. Finney, 94, of the 1000 block of Dulcie Ave., a retired teacher, died Dec. 28, 1994, in Sentara Nursing Center.
Mrs. Finney was born in Dinwiddie County, Va., and was retired from the Norfolk public schools. She was the widow of Rufus W. Finney.
She attended public school and graduated from Virginia Normal School, now Virginia State University. Upon graduation she taught school in North Carolina, McKinney, Danville, and Norfolk, Va. She retired after many years of dedicated service.
Mrs. Finney was an active member of First Baptist Church Bute Street for more than 60 years and enjoyed membership in the Dorcas Class, the Do All We Can Club and the Missionary Society. She was instrumental in organizing the Broad Creek Civic League and fostered programs for community improvement including the Garden Club.
Survivors include a son, John H. Finney and his wife, Margaret A. Finney of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Della Carpenter of Washington, D.C., Zenolia Madison of Englewood, Calif., and Etta Clanigan of Norfolk; a brother, Attorney J. Hugo Madison of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, John F. Finney of Norfolk and Jacqueline L. Finney of Richmond; and a sister-in-law, Viola Madison of Virginia Beach.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in First Baptist Church Bute Street, Norfolk, by Dr. Robert G. Murray, Pastor. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Norfolk. Viewing will be Sunday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Pretlow's Funeral Home and Monday from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. The family will receive friends at 1013 Dulcie Ave., Virginia Beach, where they will assemble at 11:15 a.m. Monday for the processional to the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Bute Street.
