Rufus Leslie Sexton, 87, of 6520 Ferry Point Road, died Saturday, Dec. 31, 1994, in Suffolk.
Mr. Sexton was born in Tyrell County, N.C., and was the son of the late Richard H. and Ida Swindell Sexton and was the husband of the late Alethia Clara Sexton.
Mr. Sexton was a former resident of Chesapeake for many years and also resided in Coinjock N.C., for 27 years. He retired in 1968 after 20 years as owner and operator of Sexton's Garage in the Broadmoor section of Chesapeake. He was a member of the Nansemond River Baptist Church, Suffolk.
Survivors include his four daughters, Doris Lerelene Jones and Joan Leslie Rapier, both of Suffolk and Barbara Ann Haywood of Windsor, Va., and Shelby Jean Christmas of Chesapeake; one sister, Virginia Spruill of Virginia Beach; one brother, Glen Sexton of Suffolk; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1995, in the chapel of Oman Funeral Home, Chesapeake. The Rev. James L. Jones, the Rev. Tim Piland and the Rev. Allen L. Dooley will officiate. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and at other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Jones, 6520 Ferry Point Road, Suffolk.
