Mary Betty Adams, 89, of Froggy Hollow Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 5, 1995.
Mrs. Adams, a native of Southampton County, was retired as a nurse's aide. She was a member of Sedley Baptist Church and Virginia Rebekah Lodge (NU)13, Norfolk. She was the widow of Lewis B. Adams and was the daughter of the late William Richard and Tina Raiford Galtress.
Survivors include a daughter, Mildred R. Cornett, and a son, Rudolph T. Raiford, both of Sedley; three stepchildren, Isabell Hartman of Virginia Beach and Norman Adams and Bobby Adams of Norfolk; three sisters, Martha G. Duke of Ivor, Dorothy G. Denson of Suffolk and Jean G. Vaughan of Franklin; three brothers, Thomas Galtress of Franklin, R. Alton Galtress of Sedley and George H. Galtress of Carrsville; 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Adams was predeceased by four children, Harold E. Raiford, Roland V. Raiford, Francis N. Raiford and Randolph T. Raiford.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. David Johnson. Burial will be at Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and suggest memorials be made to Sedley Baptist Church Building Fund or the Courtland or Ivor Rescue Squads.
