Maxwell Zedd, 93, of the 7300 block of Glenroie Ave., a retired pharmacist and founder and retired president of Zedd Drug and Tidewater Drug Corporations, died Jan. 9, 1995, in his home.
Mr. Zedd was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk. He was a member and former president for 14 years of Congregation Beth El, and was once voted its Man of the Year. He was a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia, School of Pharmacy. He was a founder of the Bank of the Commonwealth and was formerly on the board of Merchants and Planters Bank, now Nationsbank. Mr. Zedd was formerly active in many clubs and organizations including the Masonic Lodge, where he was a 32nd degree Mason.
Mr. Zedd was a beloved husband to Ruth P. Zedd; and a devoted father to Kay Zedd Kesser and her husband, Barron of Norfolk; Ronald Zedd of Norfolk, Morton Zedd and his wife, Leslie of Richmond, Helene P. Rosenfeld and her husband, Arthur, Donna P. Young and her husband, Elliott, Alan Peltz and his wife, Harriet, Jack Peltz, all of Norfolk, and Carol P. Koetzle and her husband, Thomas of Long Island, N.Y.; brother to Stanley Zedd of Portsmouth and Ruth Z. Perel of Richmond; and loving grandfather to 18 grandchildren.
A Temple service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Congregation Beth El by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg and Cantor Jacob Tessler. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Congregation Beth El. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, is handling arrangements.
