Two Marine pilots were injured Saturday when they ejected from their jet in Bertie County during a training mission, military officials said.
The pilots' injuries were not life threatening, according to a statement released by Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station, where the AV-8 Harrier involved in the crash originated.
The student pilot and his instructor were flying from Naval Air Station Norfolk on a routine local training mission Saturday morning when they ejected, said Nolan Wells, a Cherry Point spokesman.
The student, who is a military exchange student from Italy, was treated at Bertie County Hospital for a broken right arm, while the instructor was treated for glass fragments and second-degree burns, the release said.
The names of the injured were being withheld Saturday pending notification of the pilots' family members.
The plane went down in a wooded area, Wells said.
State troopers secured the accident site until a Cherry Point investigation team arrived at the scene. The accident's cause is under investigation.
